ABOUT DEPARTMENT

The department of Civil Engineering was started in the Academic Year 2012-2013 with an intake of 60 and main aim is for promoting high quality educational knowledge in the field of Civil Engineering. The academic activities of the department emphasis deep understanding of fundamental principles, development of creative ability to handle the challenges of civil engineering and the analytical ability to solve the problems which are inter-disciplinary in nature.

The department currently offers Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree program in Civil Engineering following the JNTUA University curriculum, Ananthapuramu. The curriculum broadly covers the engineering subjects of related fields such as surveying, building materials and constructions, soil mechanics and foundation and so on. Every year technical symposium AAVISKAR is organized for students to explore their technical knowledge and interact with other college students and departments. Every year department magazine “STAAPAN” will be published half yearly once to develop and improve student’s technical skills and publishing skills. Students are encouraged continuously to participate in various training programs, Industrial visits, site camps for improvement in their technical knowledge.

Dr.T.Phani Madhavi, Professor of Civil Engineering awarded her Bachelor of Technology — B.Tech Degree in Civil Engineering from Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India. She obtained Master of Technology — M.Tech Degree in Civil Engineering with Specialization in Environmental Engineering from Sri Venkateswara University and awarded Doctor of Philosophy — Ph.D Degree in Civil Engineering from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India.

Research Area:

Her interested research areas are Civil & Environmental Engineering, Water Quality, Water Treatment, Environmental Pollution, Waste Management, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Studies, Environmental Geotechnology, Construction Management, and Project Management. She Published and Presented more than 30 research papers and 2 Book Chapters in indexed Journals/Conferences. She is the Editor/Editorial Board Member/Advisory Board Member/International Scientific Committee and Reviewer for several indexed National and International Journals. She achieved Professional Certifications recognized by Government of India such as Certified Leadership Skills Professional, Certified Environmentalist and Certified Project Management Professional.

Experience:

She has 15 Years of experience in Teaching / Research / Administration / Industry and worked in various Engineering Institutions.She has participated and attended more than 100 professional development programs in conferences / seminars / workshops /FDP’s / STTP’s / webinars etc. She has membership in several professional bodies. She was the recipient of several awards for her contributions in the area of Civil & Environmental Engineering.

1 STRENGTH OF MATERIALS LAB

Strength of material laboratory provides the basic knowledge of strength of materials and students can perform different tests on variety of materials. Experiments are performed to measure the properties of materials such as impact strength, tensile strength, compressive strength, hardness, etc. The laboratory is equipped with Universal Testing Machine, Compression Testing Machine, Hardness Testing Machine. The Strength of material laboratory is effectively utilized by the undergraduate students in learning the principles and procedure involved in the various materials testing conforming with the standards. This Lab is utilized by the II Semester Students

2 TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING LAB / GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING LAB

A typical geotechnical engineering laboratory helps in identifying the engineering behavior of geomaterials soils and byproducts such as fly ash etc. There are different physical, chemical and geotechnical properties determined in the laboratory that is required for identifying the geomaterials. The preciseness of such design is entirely based on the experimental information obtained from a geotechnical laboratory. Therefore, geotechnical engineering laboratory has a great role to play in rendering the subsurface a safe and stable load bearing medium. This Lab is utilized by the V and VI Semester Students.

3 CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY LAB

Concrete Technology Laboratory provides facilities to conduct all quality control tests on cement, aggregates and concrete (Fresh and hardened). Students learn the standard procedure to test the quality of building materials in line with the corresponding IS codes. The lab has equipment for conducting non-destructive tests on concrete to verify quality in the post-construction phase. In addition to meeting the curriculum and consultancy requirements, the equipment in the laboratory are extensively utilized for projects by students of UG. This Lab is utilized by the III, VI Semester Students.

4 SURVEYING LAB

The laboratory of Surveying is well equipped with all the required instruments and tools that are helpful in the overall understanding and practical knowledge of a students learn techniques for gathering field data with both traditional and modern instruments. This Lab is utilized by the III Semester Students.

5 FLUID MECHANICS & HYDRAULLIC MACHINERY LAB

Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulic Machinery laboratory is designed to examine the properties of fluids and to conduct experiments involving both incompressible and compressible flow. Facilities are available for investigating the fundamentals of fluid statics as well as kinematics and kinetics of fluid flow to enhance the hands-on experience of our students. It is an introductory course where flow behavior, fluid forces and analysis tools are introduced. Major and minor losses in the flow and to determine the state of flow using Reylods experiment.

6 ENGINEERING GEOLOGY LAB

Engineering Geology Laboratory provides a systematic study of the structure and properties of construction materials and their occurrence in different geographical locations. This course also addresses study and selection of different species and improvement of strength competence of the site and design considerations of constructing underground structures This lab is utilized by the IV Semester Students.

Students will able to identify various tools belong to all trades and able to make various objects as per the specified dimensions by using various types of tools. This lab is utilized by the I and II Semester Students

Equipped with Lenovo configured System with Civil Software’s that enables the students to get wide exposure and practical hands-on training on latest technologies to do their projects smoothly. This lab is utilized by the VI, VII and VIII Semester Students.
