Objective

The Central Library of Ashoka Women's Engineering College is located in - with carpet area of over 600 sq. meters with sufficient area for stacks and reading space. It is fully computerized and furnished, containing a 22346 of volumes, periodicals and newspapers. With the ambience provided by the facilities and atmosphere, and all the students and staff find it conducive for constructive study. Library orientation has to do with introducing new library users to the library. Orientation is primarily concerned with ways of introducing the user to the general techniques of Library usage and services available, and the organization, layout and facilities of a particular library.

Functions of Central Library

  1. Libraries are free, and they offer a variety of resources that are accessible to everyone in the College.
  2. In a Technical Institute library is a central workshop for its teacher’s students and Research scholars. For all future engineers a library has the same importance as a laboratory.
  3. Library is self-learning of the Students.
  4. Libraries often provide quiet areas for studying, and they also often offer common areas to facilitate group study and collaboration.

Roles & Responsibilities of Library Committee.

  1. Advises and reviews library policies for instruction, resources, services, and the facility.
  2. Advises regarding library services, especially innovation, for the campus community.
  3. Discuss and evaluate budgetary issues for books, journals, databases, media, e-resources etc.
  4. Reviews benchmarking reports with peer institutions for resources, staffing, and services.
  5. Ensures the library is connected with and supports the College Students academic programs.
  6. Represent the views of the Library’s stakeholders on library and information services.
  7. Eloberate and advice on the direction and development of policies for library and information services to ensure the best possible support is provided.
  8. Recommend new collections and promote contributions to link Institutional Knowledge at University by university community for the dissemination and preservation of AUD’s intellectual and institutional knowledge.
  9. Support the Library’s efforts in ensuring financial accountability and responsibility in the provision of library collections.

  • A digital library is a library in which collections are stored in digital or electronic format and can be accessed through electronic devices and computers.
  • Digital Library is also known as Online Library, Internet Library, Digital Repository, or a Digital Collection is an online database of digital objects that can include Book as a form of Text, Images, Audio, Video, Digital documents, a library accessible through the internet.
  • In other words, in digital libraries, documents are stored in a systematic electronic format and via the Internet or CD-ROM discs.
  • Depending on the nature of the particular library, the user can access magazine articles, books, pictures, sound files, letters, and videos using a computer.
  • Digital libraries, like traditional libraries, Acquire, Circulate, Charge-Discharge, and preserve collections. The major difference from these is that the resources in digital libraries are available only in machine-readable form.
  • This means modifying the concept of traditional storage so that it is necessary to include electronically obtained materials and make them available.
  • In a digital library, various types of social and organizational useful information and knowledge of people are stored using information management methods in multimedia data.
  • In general, the repository of knowledge in a digital library is kept in a structured, processed, and organized manner.
  • Thus, this repository serves the user community as a traditional library. One of the best examples of a digital library is the National Digital Library of India, IIT Kharagpur.
  • The Digital Library of India is a major library of books in Indian languages that is available to all on the Internet. Books in this are searchable and available to read for free.
  • Additionally, it provides online links to six Indian newspapers- Times of India, The Hindu Indian Express, and Deccan Herald.

AWEC has a Central Library that plays a vital role in providing resources which enhance the knowledge of the faculty and students. Library is housed in an area of 686 Sq.m with a seating capacity of 200 users. The timings are from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM on all working days with supporting staff of two members.

The institute library functions under the Open Access System having a total collection of 22314 volumes of books with 6121 titles covering all the branches of Engineering, Management, Sciences and Humanities and general books. The library has the subscription of several online Journals, national and international Journals. Periodicals, newspapers, project reports of UG and PG students, previous years question papers, books on competitive exams along with the Book Bank consisting of 2,652 books are also made available. And also maintenance of separate book bank for backward cast students under the Government of Andhrapradesh social welfare department. Library is also having separate machine for taking Xerox of any reference books and materials.

The digital library has an impressive collection of around 500 CDs, e-resources like DELNET, J-GATE, SWAYAM, KNIMBUS by JNTUA and collection of e-books. In addition to this, the digital library is also equipped with an internet browsing centre with ten systems with unlimited access to various academic resources available on the internet.

DELNET was started at the India International Centre Library in January 1988 and was registered as a society in 1992. It was initially supported by the National Information System for Science and Technology (NISSAT), Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India. It was subsequently supported by the National Informatics Centre, Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India.
